The Spiritual Signs

In my continuing study of signs of the end times, I find it extremely important to understand the Spiritual Signs. In this category there are both positive and negative signs. And in Matthew 24 Jesus warns us 3 times of one of these signs. The first is found in Matthew 24:5, which states;

For many will come in my name, claiming, I am the Christ, and will deceive many.

But Jesus also warns a second time in the scripture Matthew 24:11, which states;

and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

The third time Jesus warns us to beware is found in Matthew 24:24, which states;

For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect-if that were possible. See, I have told you ahead of time. So if anyone tells you, There he is, out in the desert, do not go out; or, Here he is, in the inner rooms, do not believe it.

For me, these scriptures alone is a testament to the many false prophets our country has already witnessed. Jim Jones, David Koresh, Charles Manson, Heaven’s Gate Cult and Warren Jeffs, just to name a few. But what’s scary is it will get worse. But this isn’t the only sign within the Spiritual Signs to look for. We’re also told in Matthew 24:10, which states;

At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other

But Matthew 24:12,13 also states;

Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.

Again Jesus is telling us there will be a falling away. But there is another scripture which should be examined. The one found in 2 Thessalonians 2: 1-3, which states;

But relative to the coming of Jesus Christ and our gathering together to meet him, we beg, you, brethen, not to allow your minds to be quickly unsettled or disturbed or kept excited or alarmed, whether it be by some revelation of Spirit, or by word or by letter from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has arrived and is here. Let no one deceive or beguile you in any way, for that day will not come except the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, who is the son of doom. (AMP)

This scripture confirms what many already know, the falling away of Christians. But if you look at society today, I believe we’re already experiencing this falling away. Why? Because of the increase in the different religions and cults found throughout the world, especially, the USA. For instance, an increase in the Muslim faith, Buddhism, New Age belief, Scientology, Hinduism, Wicca, Atheism, and Satanism. Over the years each of these have increased in numbers while last year a reported decrease for those who claim to be religious. This seems to validate the scripture found in 1 Timothy 4:1, which states;

The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

My last negative sign found within the Spiritual Signs is the persecution of Christians. Jesus said in Matthew 24:9;

Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.

In many countries this is already taking place but as the end times grow closer the persecution of Christians will increase.

But take heart there is also positive signs within the Spiritual Signs. The proclamation of the Gospel to the whole world (Matthew 24:14), the pouring out of the Holy Spirit (Joel 2:28-32), and the ability to understand prophecies that have been sealed until the end times(Daniel 12:4-9).

While we will never know the exact time of the Lord’s return, we are called to be watchful and to know the signs. And there is hope, hope in Jesus Christ our Lord. For he tells us, he who stands firm to the end will be saved.
